Venus on the half shell.
Well, she’s completed! And looking as lovely as can be expected for a large, purple monster with a rather interesting concept of fashion.
Got a little more work done on her and did a major change to her face but she’s still not painted. I’ll be breaking out my commercial acrylics because I hesitate the use handmade egg temperas on a doll I’m going to sell without trying it out on a practice piece first. I’m thinking she’ll be dry enough tonight for me to paint her. That should give her enough time to dry before I add her hair. As a reminder of what her face looked after the last round of sculpting:

This is probably one of the silliest pieces I’ve ever worked on. I’ll be the first to admit it. It’s actually been in the works for over a year (wow! has it really been that long since I first came up with the idea?). Our ADO team (Art Dolls Only, an Etsy team) recently decided to do a monthly challenge called Bathing Beauties and this partially finished doll had to come down off the shelf and be finished because she fits in perfectly with that theme. As you can see, though, she’s not quite done yet.

Travelling Doll Journal Detail
Got a couple of commissions from a lovely, fellow dollmaker named Michelle Schafer of The Studio at Crow Haven Farm. We’re both pariticipating in a Travelling Doll Project that ADO (Art Dolls Only) is hosting. Since I also make handbound journals and someone on the ADO team outed me to the Travelling Doll people, Michelle contacted me for a journal (that turned into two journals).
