Mas

The Sanskrit word for "measure" and, apparently, where our word moon came from--or perhaps it is one of the Sanskrit words for "moon." Truth is, I got a little confused in my research since I found references to both possibilities. At this point, this piece is just called Mas, although there will probably be more to the title once I finish the piece.

He's made of polymer clay (and the parts that aren't done will also be pc) except the eyes--Masterpiece Eyes (I love their eyes!). The visual I have in my head is him sitting on the floor with a book in one hand and the other hand petting a rabbit or cat (haven't decided yet which--I'm leaning toward the rabbit idea since several cultures have myths about rabbits living in the moon). There will be a pile of books next to him on the floor.

I'm actually making the books with real pages and legible print (if you can see something that tiny) from a copy of a book I found online (Moon Lore). The book is called Moon Lore and it's by Rev. Timothy Harley and it's actually a pretty interesting read. By the way, if you've never wandered through this site, you really don't know what you're missing--it's got some fascinating books (Sacred Texts). Anyway, I've got the pages printed but they have to be coallated, put into signatures and bound. My plan is to do a polymer clay cover but I have yet to figure it all out. That's pretty much what stumped my working on him because I wanted a book done so I could pose his fingers properly on it.
